Two kittens are better than one
Get Two Kittens or go home
There are some things that need to be in pairs such as socks, shoes, gloves, finches, tennis and most importantly, kittens! If you are planning to get a kitten for your family, even if you already have an established cat then you need to consider getting a bonded pair or two kittens of similar age. I learned the hard way before I knew any better and separated the bonded pair in the photo below. I kept one and rehomed the other. This was a really bad idea and I wish I could go back in time and choose to keep them together. Singleton kittens and their families struggle, and boy did my two dogs struggle from my decision. My elderly dogs barely had any peace as my kitten, full of energy, targeted them to meet his needs, it got even worse when my kitten became an adolescent. Kittens and adolescent cats need each other for adequate mental stimulation, emotional support, and social development. Without an appropriate feline playmate, you and your un-consenting pets or human family members are going to experience a lot of unwanted stalking, pouncing, grabbing, biting, scratching, bunny kicking, alligator rolling, and maybe even suckling. Trust me, get two kittens.
