Space and Territory
Creating a cat friendly home - Space and territory
Whether you're addressing undesirable behaviors like counter surfing, planning pet integrations, managing conflicts, or simply aiming for a harmonious environment, providing adequate territory for your cats is crucial. The great thing about cats is that you can expand the territory available by going up! Up the walls! The more territory available to your pets in a multi pet home the better. You can never have too much space, but you can have too little. Conflict over the limited space available is one of the most common things I see when clients contact me about their pets fighting. Cats and their caregivers also get into conflicts over limited space available, your cat wants to be on the counters with their dirty litter paws, but you don’t!
increasing the amount of territory available to your cats does not have to be fancy or expensive. Clearing off shelves, cupboards, mantles, and dressers can open up more space for the cats to navigate around each other in the home.
